About Stegesund

The twin islands Stegesund and Hästholmen have several beautiful old wooden villas, most of them built in the beginning of last century, around 1910. The surroundings are tranquil, with bicycle paths, sloping meadows, bathing spots and forests. The islands gives a lovely summer feeling, with laziness and pleasure, just like for the families back in the beginning of 1900, when it all started.

The location of Stegesund is only an hour by local ferry to the centre of Stockholm with boats trafficking several times a day. It is easy to go to Stockholm and back in a day. To the small town, Vaxholm it is only a 10 min boat ride, with the local ferry or with your own boat

Tennis, as a guest at Villa Solbacka, you have free access to play on Sweden’s only working outdoor tennis court! Very exciting! The tennis court is the pride of the islanders and was originally built in 1904.

“Solbacka is like a time capsule, the feeling is like in Ingmar Bergman’s film Fanny & Alexander, big lovely rooms with beautiful things wherever you look! Thank you for having us here. We will definitely return ”

“If I have to choose, I am in love with the garden with the old beautiful greenhouse, the perfect place to sit and read your book! Plus it was absolutely wonderful to pick my own blueberries in the woods! It wouldn’t be possible for us in Germany. If our children were to choose they would have lived in the playhouse ONLY – they just LOVED it! Plus the swings were also favourites!
A couple of times we took the local ferry to Stockholm for the day, which was surprisingly easy and a pleasant trip in just over an hour. ”

“The open sky, the sea and the friendly atmosphere of the house was just perfect for all of us as we gathered at Solbacka and Stegesund to celebrate my father’s 60th birthday together with his children and grandchildren. Solbacka was a perfect place: harmony stylish, luxurious but also cosy, familiar and easy to like”
